Trim Union of Parishes Minimize

Trim Union of Parishes

St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trim
The Diocesan Cathedral of Meath is situated in the historic town of Trim, 25 miles north/east of Dublin. Because of its close proximity to Dublin, the town and surrounding area is seen as part of the commuter belt. The surrounding countryside is probably made up of some of the best agricultural land in the country.

The present Church was built in 1803. It replaced an earlier church, which dated back to the 15th century.

St James’ Athboy
St James, which is situated in the centre of the town of Athboy (7 1/2 miles west of Trim). Athboy is a small market town, where many of the local businesses have a close connection with the surrounding farmers. There is a small influx of young families moving into the area from Dublin, and travelling to the city to work.

Personal:
The present rector took up office in September 2002. Robert Jones is from Co Carlow, and his wife Alison is from Co Antrim. They have 3 daughters.

Having been ordained in 1979, Robert served for 19 years in the Diocese of Down & Dromore, and the Diocese of Connor. Prior to their move to Trim & Athboy they were in Athlone.   Robert has recently been very involved with the Niall Mellon Trust and has worked for a number of weeks in the past few years, building houses in South Africa.
