Navan Union of Parishes

NAVAN UNION:
Navan Union comprises of the parishes of Navan, Kentstown and Slane. All three churches are open for public worship every Sunday and are in excellent condition and recently decorated. Services in Kentstown and Slane are at 10.00a.m. and in Navan at 11.30a.m. Holy Communion is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month in Navan and Kentstown and on the 2nd and 4th Sundays in Slane.

The Ascension is celebrated on the Hill of Slane, St. Patrick’s Day at St. Patrick’s Church, Tara, and there is on Open Air Service on the Hill of Tara on the last Sunday in June. There is a Children’s / Family Service in Navan on the last Sunday of every month.

St. Mary’s Church in Navan, where there is also a Parish Room facility, has an average congregation of 70 and St. Mary’s Church, Kentstown and St. Patrick’s Church, Slane have an average of 15. St. Patrick’s is situated in a village setting in Slane and St.Mary’s Kentstown is situated in a quiet rural community where the local village is growing slightly.

St. Mary’s Navan is situated in the centre of Navan town near the confluence of the river Boyne and the river Blackwater. Navan’s population is 22,000 and it is one of the fastest growing towns in Ireland. Our greatest challenge is reaching out to new arrivals and maintaining an active ministry with our young families.

There is a Parish Primary School in Navan called Flowerfield National School which is a 3 teacher school with an enrolment of 64 pupils.

There is a range of parish organisations and activities such as Sunday School, Mothers’ Union, Young Families, Healer Prayer Circle and Scouts. Our mid-week informal worship and study is called Encounter and it’s held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 8.00p.m. There is a presentation, discussion and Bible reflection at the first meeting and Bible Study at the second meeting.
